Psychotherapy & Counselling #01

  • Is your family in crisis?
  • Have you been managing a recent separation, divorce or bereavement with all the emotional distress and tension involved?
  • Has the introduction of a new partner brought a sense of turmoil to the family?
  • Is your son, daughter, or grandchild behaving in uncharacteristic or dangerous ways?
  • Are you wondering what to do for the best?

Family therapy could be the answer.

Families usually come to see us when they have tried everything they can. We work with as many members of the family (whether related or not) that choose to come. We won't turn you away if the person you’re most worried about doesn’t want to come. However, we will include them in our work with you as though they were physically in the room.

We will help you identify communication and relationship patterns in your family. These patterns often form the invisible and unspoken rules for family life. Therapy can make these invisible rules visible and help families to change.

All our family therapists are qualified, experienced and registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

What to expect, charges, cancellation fees and how to contact us

The way we work is conversational. We will ask questions and share our thinking based on what you’ve told us. With families, we usually offer 1.5 hour sessions at intervals of 3 or 4 weeks.

You are not required to commit to a set number of sessions but we do expect you to let us know, at least 24 hours in advance, if you want to cancel your session. We charge the full fee if you don’t come and you don’t cancel.

We have a different rate for organisations. Please contact us for details.

Couples

Psychotherapy & Counselling #02

  • Is your relationship going through a bad patch?

  • Do you and your partner want different things from life? from your relationship?

  • Is communication difficult?

  • Are you arguing a lot?

  • Have things got to the point where one of you has got violent or walked out?

These are just some of the things couples who come to therapy talk about.

We work with different kinds of couples. You may be a heterosexual or same sex couple; a couple from different racial backgrounds or religious communities. We create a safe enough space for you to talk and listen and explore what is important for each of you in your relationship.

We do not tell you what to do or try to keep you together at all costs. If there are children involved some of the work might be about how you continue to be parents.

All our family therapists are qualified and experienced at working with diverse and complex relationships and they are registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

Individuals

Psychotherapy & Counselling #03

People come for counselling or psychotherapy for a wide variety of reasons.

Sometimes people tell us that they are unhappy with their lives. There are many reasons why a person may feel unhappy.

For some, their reasons are connected with their identity and sense of belonging and are related to:

  • race

  • sexuality

  • adoption

  • immigration status

  • past experience of abuse

  • loss or bereavement

Some people come to see us because they find themselves repeatedly making relationship choices that lead to disappointment or put them in danger.

Some people tell us they’ve come because they are:

  • depressed

  • having panic attacks

  • have an eating problem

  • have a drinking problem

  • other people are worried about them

At Chiron we do not judge or blame, instead we work with you to help you understand how you’ve arrived at that point in your life and what you would want to be different.
