Chiron has years of experience providing supervision, consultation and training to professionals working in mental health and social care. We can offer you as an individual, and your agency, a service which will enhance your practice and the practice of those working in your agency. Our work is underpinned by systemic and social constructionist theories and principles and draws on Appreciative Inquiry and Solution Focused techniques.
A Systemic perspective seeks to understand the meaning given to particular behaviours and actions by looking at the contexts in which they occur and the relationships that both affect and are affected by them. It allows practitioners to explore patterns of communication between a person and the people who are significant to them.
Social Constructionists believe that when we talk and interact with each other we are also creating our social worlds. Language is particularly important in this way of thinking. When social constructionists use the term 'language' they mean all the ways people use to communicate what they are thinking and feeling, this includes words, tone of voice, gestures, glances and so on. This theoretical framework enables practitioners to use Solution Focused Techniques to explore ideas and beliefs.
Appreciative Inquiry (AI) identifies what is already working well in the agency or team with the aim of empowering team members/colleagues in self and team development, so that they can feel that they are working to their best potential. The four key principles that inform the work are:
We feel that this approach is particularly well suited to the consultation work we do in agencies and with teams.
Supervision and consultation sessions take place at Chiron's premises, located close to Victoria Park, or at agencies' premises.

(a) valuing the best of what is
(b) envisioning what might be
(c) dialoguing what should be
(d) innovating what will be

Professionals working in the mental health and social care fields interact in a range of relationships with others who might have different beliefs and values from their own. They are expected to advocate, intervene and make decisions aimed at protecting and keeping safe the vulnerable and the very young.

Transitions and changes are an all too familiar experience in the lives of most working professionals. Whether changes are budget driven or result from the introduction of new legislation, they generally involve people having to manage re-structuring, re-location, and re-organisation. This can mean having to adopt different ways of thinking and acting in relation to work practices, colleagues and managers as alliances are broken and re-established.
Our use of Appreciative Inquiry and Solution Focused techniques (described at the top of this page) provide opportunities for consultees to explore the change process and its effects on their relationships and practices within their agencies, or teams.
We offer both one-to-one and group/team consultation sessions.
